How to create and use PayPal links to send and request money?
What’s a PayPal link?
With a PayPal link, you can send and request money easily by directly sharing a link via text, email, or other apps to your intended recipient. This makes paying and getting paid as simple as sending a message.
How do I send money using a PayPal link?
- Open the PayPal app and access your account.
- Tap Send/Request.
- Choose Send and request money with a link.
- Enter the amount you'd like to send. You can also optionally add a personalized note, or choose a different currency you'd like the receiver to get.
- Press Send.
- Choose whether you’re “Paying for an item or Service” or “Sending to a friend.”
- Select how you want to pay and choose Next.
- Review the information and select Create PayPal Link.
- Once created, click Share PayPal Link and share it with your receiver using your preferred communication method.
How do I request money using a PayPal link?
- Open the PayPal app and access your account.

Is there a fee to use PayPal links?
It’s free to create a PayPal link. When you use your PayPal account to send or receive money via a link, our standard applicable transaction fees may apply. These can be found on our Fees page.
Can I cancel the PayPal link?
Yes, you can cancel it as long as the link hasn't been accepted or paid. After you cancel, the money you paid, including any fees, will be refunded to your original payment method. If the link is not accepted, paid or canceled within 10 days, it will expire. After a link is canceled or expired, it will no longer be accessible to anyone else, and will indicate the payment is no longer available.
How does the recipient accept or pay for the payment?
Your recipient simply needs to click the link and can accept or pay the payment on PayPal.com, or in their PayPal app. They will be required to log in to their PayPal account to be able to pay or accept the payment.
What happens if my recipient doesn't accept my PayPal link?
If they don't accept or pay it within 10 days, the link will automatically expire, and the money you paid, including any fees, will be refunded to your original payment method.
Can I use PayPal links to send abroad?
Yes, links can support international money movement in available locations supported by PayPal. Standard fees, including international fees, and currency conversion spreads may apply. These can be found on our Fees page.
What happens if the wrong person claims my PayPal link?
When you create a PayPal link, it can be used or claimed by anyone with access to the link. Make sure to only send the link to a person you know and trust, to avoid an unintended recipient from receiving a payment. Payments can't be canceled once they've reached a recipient, even if you accidentally send a link to the wrong person.
Can a link be accepted or paid multiple times, or by more than one person?
No. Send and request PayPal links are only able to be accepted or paid once. After a link has been successfully accepted or paid, if another person accesses the completed link, they will not see any information related to the payment. If you are involved with the completed link and re-click the link later, you will see the transaction details for the completed payment.
Recommendations for using PayPal links:
- PayPal links created by you can be used by anyone with access to them to either send or receive payments. Make sure you share them directly with people you trust and be careful not to post the link publicly (e.g., on social media) as anyone who has access to the link can use it to claim the money transferred through use of the link or make the payment to you requested through use of the link.
- We recommend that you use a safe communication method with end-to-end encryption to avoid the link being intercepted or not being delivered correctly.
