You can redeem your earned points at PayPal checkout with millions of merchants worldwide. As you earn points, you’ll unlock new tiers and benefits you can use with PayPal and our partners.

How do I opt in to PayPal+?

You can opt in on the PayPal app. If you’re not prompted to opt in when you log in, go to the PayPal+ tab at the bottom of the app to opt in.

Who is eligible to join PayPal+?

Anyone with a personal UK PayPal account.

Is there a fee to join PayPal+?

No, it's always free. That means there’s no fee to join and no subscription fee.

Where can I find my PayPal+ information?

Tap the PayPal+ tab at the bottom of the PayPal app to view and manage your PayPal+. There, you’ll find your current points available to redeem, your tier progress, your earn and redemption history, limited-time offers, and the additional benefits available to you.

Earning Points

How do I earn points with PayPal+?

There are several different ways you can earn points, including using PayPal checkout and sending money abroad.

Always-on earning opportunities

  • Use PayPal Checkout: Earn 1 point for every £10 spent, including on international purchases. This earn rate applies to any funding method you use for PayPal checkout, aside from the PayPal Debit Card.
  • Use PayPal Debit Card: Earn 10 points for every £10 spent with PayPal checkout, another checkout provider, and in-store.*
  • Use PayPal Credit Card: Earn 1 point for every £10 spent with PayPal checkout and in-store.

Send money abroad: Earn 1 point for every £10 spent.**

* This rate runs through 2026 and is subject to change. When you're shopping online with PayPal checkout, your PayPal Debit Card earns at the top rate only where your PayPal balance is used for that purchase. When your balance only covers part of such payment, you won't get that top rate on full amount.
** A PayPal account is required to send and receive money. Does not apply to Xoom remittances. Fees apply when converting currency and sending money to an account in another country. See
fees.

Limited-time offers

Check the app for offers that provide even more ways to earn. These include offers with our merchant partners, as well as opportunities to earn when you refer friends to PayPal, complete shopping challenges, and more.

Can I combine my PayPal+ points with other promotions, discounts, or rewards programmes?

Yes, you can combine points from your favourite loyalty programmes and PayPal when you choose PayPal at checkout. For example, if you use PayPal with a credit* or debit card that has a separate rewards programme, you can earn both with PayPal and the other rewards programme.**. And, if you’re paying a merchant that has a rewards programme, you can earn from them, too. That's points on points on points.

* Using your credit card through your PayPal wallet may impact your rights under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. This means you may lose the right to hold the merchant or your credit card provider jointly liable if you don’t get the goods or services you paid for (if they cost between £100 and £30,000).
** subject to issuer terms

Are there any transactions I won’t earn points on?

You can earn points on almost everything, but there are a few merchant category codes (MCCs) excluded from earning. These include pawn shops, dating services, and gambling sites. If you have any questions about whether a transaction should earn points, please contact us.

Will I earn on international purchases in checkout?

Yes, you’ll earn on these purchases. If you’re paying a merchant in US dollars, you’ll still earn points. If you convert with PayPal, the points you earn are based on the purchase amount when it’s converted to GBP. Note, you won’t earn on any fees associated with international transactions if such fees apply.

Example:

You spend $100 USD, and it converts to £80 GBP at the time of the purchase. If you’re using PayPal Checkout, your earn rate is 1 point per £10, and you’ll earn 8 points.

What will the earn rate be if my purchase is split between the PayPal Debit Card and another funding source?

If you pay with your debit card anywhere outside of PayPal checkout (including in-stores), you’ll earn 10 points per £10 on the entire purchase, even if your back-up funding method was used.

If you pay with your debit card within the PayPal checkout flow, you’ll earn 10 points per £10 for the portion you paid for with the debit card from your PayPal balance and 1 point per £10 for the remaining amount. To ensure you’re earning 10 points per £10 on all your PayPal checkout purchases with the PayPal Debit Card, turn on auto-reload in the PayPal app to ensure you always have a sufficient PayPal balance.

Example – in-store:

You have £30 in your PayPal balance and you use your PayPal Debit Card to make a £50 purchase. The remaining £20 is covered by your back-up payment method (e.g., bank account or non-PayPal Debit Card).
You’ll earn 30 points for the portion covered by your PayPal Debit Card, and 20 points for the portion covered by your back-up payment method. In total, you earn 50 points for this purchase.

Example – PayPal checkout online:

You have £30 in your PayPal balance and you use your PayPal Debit Card to make a £50 purchase in PayPal checkout. The remaining £20 is covered by your back-up payment method (e.g., bank account, credit card, or non-PayPal Debit Card).

You’ll earn 30 points for the portion covered by your PayPal Debit Card, and two points for the portion covered by your back-up payment method. In total, you earn 32 points for this purchase.

Is there a cap on how many points I can earn?

No, there’s no cap or limit to the number of points you can earn.

Do my points available to spend expire?

These points expire if you don't earn or redeem any points for 3 years.

Example:

You earn 100 points in January 2027 and have 100 points total. Between January 2027 and January 2030, you don’t earn or redeem any points. Your 100 points will expire in January 2030.

Does my tier and progress toward the next tier expire?

Typically, you’ll have a calendar year to qualify for the next tier before your progress resets. Once you qualify for a new tier, you’ll have access to that tier through the end of the following calendar year.

For the PayPal+ launch, we’re giving you a few extra months to earn. That means you have from November 2025 through December 31, 2026, to earn tier status through December 31, 2027.

Example:

You earn 25,000 points in 2026 and then do not earn points through from January 1, 2027 –December 31, 2027. You’ll be a Gold PayPal+ member from the date you earned Gold in 2026 until December 31, 2027, enjoying the Gold member benefits. Then in January 2028 you’ll start the year as a Blue PayPal+ member.

Do I earn points from ATM withdrawals or balance transfers?

No.

Will I earn partial points if I spend less than the amount required for a single point?

If you spend less than £1 using the PayPal Debit Card or less than £10 with any other funding instrument, or when sending money abroad, you’ll earn partial points. However, only whole points are shown in your balance. Once your partial points add up to a whole point, you’ll see it reflected in the app.

Example:

You’re using your PayPal Debit Card and the earn rate is 10 points per £10. If you spend £0.40, you’ll earn 0.4 points. You won’t see this reflected in the app. Next, you spend £1.60. You’ll see two points associated with this transaction reflected throughout the PayPal+ and Activity tabs.

Can I earn points on recurring payments (like subscriptions or bills)?

Yes. The same earn rates apply to recurring payments.

How long does it take to get my points?

Points typically show as pending within one to 14 days of completing the transaction. Points may stay pending for up to 30 days (occasionally longer) while we run some checks. You can't redeem pending Points during this time.

If I use Pay in 3, does this affect how I receive my points?

When you use Pay in 3, you’ll earn 1 point per £10. This is based on the total loan amount at checkout.

Example:

You make a purchase of £120 with Pay in 3, which includes £10 of shipping costs. You’ll earn 12 points after the purchase goes through, rather than 4 points for each £40 repayment.

Tiers and Benefits

What are the PayPal+ tiers?

PayPal+ has three tiers: Blue, Gold, and Black. Each tier has its own set of benefits. Once you opt into PayPal +, you’re in the Blue tier. You can track your progress toward the next tier in the PayPal+ tab in the app.

Earn 25,000 points in a calendar year to unlock Gold. Earn 50,000 in a calendar year to unlock Black tier. View ‘How to use my PayPal + tier benefits? ’ for more information about the tiers.

Redeeming Points

How do I redeem my points?

In order to redeem your points at checkout, you’ll need an active debit or credit card in your wallet (this is in case your points don’t cover the entirety of the purchase). Once you’re ready to checkout, choose PayPal to pay for your purchase. Then, tap Pay with and choose PayPal+ points. All available points will automatically appear here. You can cover part of a purchase with points if you don’t have enough to cover the full amount. You’ll just need to choose a payment method to cover the remaining portion of the purchase.

What can I redeem my points for?

You can redeem them at PayPal checkout at any UK and international merchant that accepts PayPal.

What is the redemption value of my points?

  • Blue Tier Members: Redemption value is 10,000 points, which gives you £100 off.
  • Gold Tier Members: 20% boost in redemption value, so 10,000 points give you £120 off.
  • Black Tier Members: 30% boost in redemption value, so 10,000 points give you £130 off.

Additionally, Gold and Black Tier Members get a 50% boost on grocery, dining, and food purchases, so 10,000 points is £150 off.

What happens to my points if I close my account?

You won’t be able to redeem Rewards points if you close your PayPal account, so you should redeem them before closing your account.

Can I split a transaction between points and another funding source?

If your points don't cover your entire transaction, you can split the purchase with most non-PayPal debit and credit cards. We're working on enabling additional funding sources for these types of purchases. If you have further questions, please contact us.

Example:

You’re in the Blue tier and made a purchase of £30. You redeem 10,000 points to cover £10 of the purchase. You can pay for the remaining £20 with an external credit or debit card.
